Howdy, I have an IH F-230d truck with a cummins motor. The motor is in need of an overhaul; is it feasible to overhaul the motor or junk the old truck? Where might I find an overhaul kit?

That model number jogged my memory a bit, drove a few of those old rigs. Might your truck be from the 1950's? A 230 has to be the biggest, 220 was the biggest I drove. If I remember right, the "F" designates tandem drive, the "D" indicates diesel. They also had the "R" line- 6 cyl gas, and "V" line- V8 gas. Of course, I could be a bit off, memory getting old.

The truck is about a 1971 or 1972 model. It looks like the 190 and 220 series trucks. It has the "5 and a 4" transmission. It has a hendrickson suspension (yes it is a tandem drive truck).

Sorry no one has answered this post. Perhaps it is because the IH F230D does not seem to be a valid model. I suppose the "F" could mean Fleetstar or maybe one of the larger "S" models, according to the book "One Hundred Years of IH". I dunno.

Anyway, I would think that Cummins parts going back to the fifties should be available thru the dealers or aftermarket mfgs. That would include cylinder kits, bearings, gaskets, water pump kits, etc. Injection service should also be available.
