Started this restoration project on my Farmall Super C. It ran good serval years ago after going through the engine, and other things like clutch Plate needing to be ground flat. OK Problems: * It starts good, but smokes. * Operator Throddle doesn't respond in center about 1/3rd * Govern may need adjusting?
Any help in this matter is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Bob

Try to get a hold of Gene Bender on here. He knows a trick to fix that sloppy throttle lever. He has a machine shop drill it out enough to put a brass bushing in it. He told me personally it fixes the sloppy throttle response. He can tell you sizes of bushings. Patrick

Patrick,
The sloppy lever, yes I expect you are right. This afternoon after work it will be coming apart. Suspect the holes in the lever are worn where the spring hooks into. May be like you say needs a bushing? Probably do it myself? Though I do have a new lever to replace the old one for a back up. Thanks for the info!

Most farmalls have a portion of their throttle lever movement not do much. Adjusting it so that it moves the governor control lever to the max is as good as it gets (unless the governor is in need of repair.
Smoking could be a variety of things, more info is needed: color of smoke, when it happens how much, and if it disapears or lingers in the air. Help us help you. JimN

Jim,
The smoke is black, and it is enough to make the plugs all black, the inside of the exhaust pipe black. The tractor sounds pretty good. Kind of a learning curve to get through, with fine tuning? I have been into the governor and may have it messed up? Thank you. Bob

Black is too much gas. The carburetor is messed up somehow; the float is probably set too high.

Nat,
Got that fixed. The exhaust is much clearer. Thanks for the information. Now the engine speed control lever doesn't respond correct. I took it off the governor, and found that lever sloppy, like the spring has to much play in the governor. Plan on tinkering with that tomorrow.
Does anyone know the proper settings? Thanks in advance.
Bob
