Engine sat for 6 years. A lot of tinkering and engine runs good on gas. However switching over to diesel produces nothing. Not one puff of exhaust, not one cylinder fires. Opened all injector bleeders and all have fuel. would spark plugs continuing to fire after switching to diesel interfer with running in diesel mode? Alltho the cross shaft in the manifold turns could it be possible the problem is with the butterfly valves. Or is it possible that setting for so long has caused the injector pump to malfunction and is not producing enough pressure to trip the injectors. any help will really be appreciated. Rod

The starting valves should isolate the spark plugs from the cylinders in deisel mode, so it's not likely that them firing would do anything.

I'd pull the valve cover and make sure that in diesel that all the starting valves in the head are closing completely. Could be linkage adjustment or the valves could be sticking open(fairly common on a tractor that sat for a long time in the gas position). Try squirting some penetrating oil on the valve stems of the starting valves and manually work them open and closed with a screwdriver.

Let us know if you find out the problem!

Dunno Rod,

If you're not getting any smoke, I'd think it is a fuel problem, isn't it?

Allan
