Small diameter generator? Check for a Ford early 60s-to 64(?) Falcon or Economline van type. If the store carries old foreign parts look for the English Ford generators- same basic generator size. Other possible is adapt VW67-73 generator- they had split pulleys for belt adjustment with their solid mounting- may find archive thread of a H adaption. Rebuild shop can convert 6 to 12 also. Industrial engine shop may have a small diameter Delco available similar to garden tractor starter/gen units. RN.

Take your generator to an auto parts store, preferably one with an old-timer behind the parts counter. Ask if they can help you find a 12V generator that's similar in size to the 6V one you brought in with you.

The Hitachi 14231 (better verify that) alternator sorta looks like a generator, and provides all the modern conveniences. You couldn't tell the difference at 10 feet.
