Need HELP-- C123 Engine --Carb

Hi Guys;

I need advice. My 85 yr old father-in-law decided to "help" me because my 240-U was "running rough."

He proceeded to "adjust" the carb, and when that failed, he removed and took completely apart the distributor, and "rebuilt" it. (all this done while I was gone)

Needless to say, now the tractor wont even start let alone run.

I completely re-checked distributor, and reset everything TDC, and am getting spark, but engine is not firing. I am suspecting his "carb adjustment." Can anyone tell me the Generic adjustment from "seated" position of the main jet screw? How many turns should I back it out? I am thinking that he either has to too rich or too lean to fire.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

I think El Toro's advice is on target. Just double check to make sure you are on the COMPRESSION stroke.

Was the distributor removed from the engine? If it was the distributor may timed on the wrong cylinder. You may have fire, but at the wrong time.

If it was removed you need to bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke, then look at the rotor to see where it's pointing. If it isn't pointing to the No1 plug tower, you need to pull the distributor and reset the rotor to the No1 plug tower and reinstall. Hal

I think your problems are much deeper than carb adjustments. The tractor should still start, might not run smooth, but it should still start. Make sure you are getting fuel to the carb, and then double check the distributer and the ignition timing.
