What is the purpose of the drain pipe next to the filter housing? If you drain the crankcase wouldn't most all of the oil drain due to gravity? If not, is this pipe just to get out the remaining few onces of oil? Thanks in advance once more!

Yes, it took a wire and lots of scraping to clean it out. Thanks again.

There is oil in the bottom of the filter housing, along with dirt, that doesn't drain by remoivng the pan drain. If it hasn't been drained in a while you may have to run a wire up it and then flush the bottom fo the housing out.
