To all owners of A, SA, 100, 130 and 140 tractors

I would enjoy any input you have to offer, personal e mails are invited. I have been playing around with several different proto types this summer. My goal is to come up with a device to have all three, U drawbar, one point fast hitch and 3 point hitch, and be able to switch from one to either of the other in 5 min. without the use of wrenches. I'm curious as to how important such a device would be.

On the Super A I am working on I want cultivators on it but I also have the U draw bar and the swinging draw bar arm.

Hugh, I just dont see a way to have both but I have an idea.

The anchor bar for the swinging arm is pretty stout built so why not use it as the draw bar. Mount it on the top holes on the final drive above where you normally would for the U draw bar. It would be up higher which might or might not be good. I know I would use the lug nut type nuts to secure them and not just bolts.

Another idea would be to have a bar made that would fit betwenn the two arms of the cultivators where you could take it on and off. Cultivator brackets dont appear as heavy built tho as the draw bar brackets.

I have a 49 SA with both the U-drawbar and swinging tongue option. I also have a 1000 loader for it, which requires removal of both. I would like to be able to keep the loader frame on the tractor, but remove the arms, and still have a means to use pull type implemants. Thus a three point arangement would be very useful if it was a quick-change setup.

Now...when it comes to plowing, it would be a nice option to have a single-point fast hitch rather than having to reverse the u-bar to afix the plow beam.

On Super A #1, I have an aftermarket 3-point hitch, bottom arms of which mount on the final drive housings in the same location as the original drawbar. It, in turn, is fitted with a (3-point) drawbar with an attached triangular frame (ebay - $39) and toplink to keep it level. It works great and is very convenient for backing under trailer tongues, etc. I also use a 60" finish mower (3-point) on this tractor and am very satisfied with the entire set-up, despite early concerns about the additional angle of the PTO shaft due to the offset design of the tractor. I also have an IH "U" drawbar for this tractor, but never seem to need it.

Super A #2 has front and rear cultivators on it, but also has an IH "U" drawbar - not on the tractor for now.

Neither tractor has a swinging drawbar. I keep thinking I would like a 1-point fast hitch system, but then there is the matter of finding the 1-point system and aquiring or making 1-point implements, etc. So, I have not pursued that - at least not yet. Moreover, the 3-point system seems to work so well, I am not sure I really need a 1-point fast hitch. As you know, the selection of 3-point implements available in the market today makes the 3-point set-up even more desireable - at least to me.

My A has a 5 ft 3 blade IH belly mower, same for 100. I don't believe either have a drawbar installed as the mower mount interfered. SA has only a U drawbar.

I find this size tractor too small for field work for me because they are too rough riding and too slow geared for haying. I have raked with an A, throttled down in fourth but the field needs to be really smooth and mostly I bale prairie hay, lots of holes and ground rock.

P.S. - My current solution to my desire for a 3pt. has been to buy another tractor. I found one last night so I now have a Massey again.
