My usually reliable Farmall Cub has suddenly developed an issue. While idling along, the engine began to run at extremely high RPM. Now it starts and runs normally for about 5-10 seconds, then revs up to a really scary rate, prompting me to shut down before it blows something up. Is it the governor, and if so how should I proceed to remedy? Any input would be welcome.

Thanks for all your input. Turns out it was the linkage shaft from the governor to the carb. Always pay to check the simple stuff first, I guess.

On my B a few years ago, the tractor started doing the same thing. Discovered the quadrant on the end of the throttle shaft was loose. Was originally swedged on. A few sharp blows from a prick punch along the gap cured the problem.

Be careful. If reved too high, the cast iron fan bracket can break. You will need a new radiator and front engine cover.

first check the rod from the cross linkage to the carb. The carter pin may have come out.
