I have a Farmall H that has a leaking trans countershaft oil seal. There is a coupling on the countershaft that drives the Hyd pump. As far as I can tell the coupling must thread onto the countershaft. How do I remove the coupling off the countershaft so I can replace the oil seal?

Mmq, what William said to the tee, I used a small pipe wrench and the flange came off easily, didn't hurt anything, BUT, while you have the belly pan off and the Liftall out(if you have one) you may as well do both seals, they are not that costly and it may save you having to do the process all over again in the future...Mike in Exeter Ontario

It is threaded, and it's normal threads.("Righty-tighty,lefty-loosey") Tight, but rarely rusty, I'd guess, as it's sort of self-lubing.
The usual way is put the tractor in high gear, set the brakes, chock the tires. Insert something that fits in the slot of the coupling and use a big adustable wrench to turn it. I think I remember that it's 1/2 inch, but I don't remember what I used. I'm pretty sure 1/2" key stock would just bend unless you've got an easy one. I do remember putting a short length of pipe on the wrench and standing on it to break it loose. I'd recommend against hitting it as you're using the gear teeth to hold it, and I've heard of people using a pipe wrench on the coupling but that sounds distructive to me.
Good luck, Wm
