More hydralic questions

Fellas, I just bought this 1953 Super M and I don't understand the hydralic system, so here are some silly questions.
I intend to put a Saginaw 3-point on this tractor, please click on the link, then click agin on the picure to enlarge the photo.

My questions are:.....

1. What is the name of this valve thingy marked "#1", and is it considered a 2-way valve, that can be used on 2-way cylinders for up and down pressure?

2. Do the hoses marked "#2" and "#3" look correct, they are on different "levels" of the valve thingy, regardless of how the photo looks.

3. "#3" hose is actually on the same level as "#4" hose which runs to the other side of the tractor and is hooked to the rear opening on that side. (does this look correct?)

4. "#2" hose is on the same level as "#5" outlet that does not have a hose connected to it. (does this look correct?)

5. Does any of my rambleing make sense? LOL

I know absolutely nothing about hydralics, and I hope this picture is worth a 1000 words.

Thanks RoninKS

Picture with 7 hoses.

That is a valve for 2 way hydraulic. Looks like they have it hooked up to use a one way cylinder. If theres a plug in tee behind # 5 and hose 3 and 4 are togeather there using them as return to reservior. hope I didn't get # mixed up. It looks like the original belley is removed and using the housing for reservior or hydraulic tank. I can tell you the most common way the live pump and 2 way valve are done. The valve opening to left side of tractor, some valves have opening to front also but it and left are in same passage, this is the pressure tie in from pump on engine. This line should be teed before valve and a regulator and return line to reservior to protect pump. 2 Valve openings to rear of tactor is where lines for 2 way cylinder go. The pipe on bottom that valve is mounted to is return oil to reservior. A pipe should come out near bottom of reservior and go to pump on engine for suction

"That is a valve for 2 way hydraulic."

Thanks for the reply, that's what I thought.

"Looks like they have it hooked up to use a one way cylinder. If theres a plug in tee behind # 5 and hose 3 and 4 are togeather there using them as return to reservior."

Yes, there is a plug in the tee (very hard to see in the picture),.... and 3 and 4 look like they run together.

"hope I didn't get # mixed up. It looks like the original belley is removed and using the housing for reservior or hydraulic tank."

That's what I thought also!

OK, I'm a bit lost now, is there a diagram (or pictures)on the forum that I can look at? :>)

"2 Valve openings to rear of tactor is where lines for 2 way cylinder go. The pipe on bottom that valve is mounted to is return oil to reservior. A pipe should come out near bottom of reservior and go to pump on engine for suction"

Yes, there's a hose running from the belly to the pump (hose #7), and a hose running from the pump to the valve (hose #6).

Thanks agin for your reply.

Correction instead of regulator valve, ment to say relief valve. When hydraulic housing has pump removed any of the 1/2 inch pipe openings on sides can be used to return oil to reservior and is a common place for relief valve dump pressure to discharge to.

Thanks,... can I put the relief valve in the tee going to the 2-way valve (on the pump side)and go from there into a tee with hose #4??

Appreciate the info.

Yes, looks as if maybe at one time there was line from tee in pressure line to opening below belt pulley flange. I can't tell in picture whats there, but may be a relief valve or just pipe caped off.

Below the belt pully flange is a pipe with sort of a spring on it, and a cap.

I think it would be a simple matter to come down from the tee with a relief valve and hook into the pipe, if that's a good place to put the relief valve.

I thank you agin, for your replies.
