Just heard about an Estate auction this weekend that will have a 986 with front Loader. Have no idea what the condition of the tractor is.

What are some things to look for in these tractors and what would be a the price for something like this (I know it will vary with condition of the tractor).

I have a 1066 and looking for another tractor to do some baling with and also need a front end loader as do not have one on 1066.

Th TA on my 1066 never had a lever on it since I bought it so never been an issue with TA, how would I check the TA on this tractor, is the TA an issue like they were on the 66 series?

I was hoping to get a cab tractor, do not sound like this one has one, have hard/expense is it to put a cab on a 986.

Also will I get better fuel economy with this tractor running hay equipment (round hay baler 6X5 bales)
Thanks
JM

Thanks for all the help and suggestion, auction was today went for 8200. Air condition was not working, had a linkage issue and one tire complety gone other one was 25% left. Too many chance for me at that price. Thanks again for all the help

You really can't check the condition of the TA with the tractor sitting in the auction line. I've seen people put the tractor in 2nd or 3rd high, rev it up, stand on the brakes, and slip the bejeezus out of the clutch as a "test." But, that's VERY dangerous when people are milling around, especially if the brakes don't work. It's also not cool to abuse someone else's tractor like that, especially without asking.

Unless the owner cut it off, 986s came with a cab, or a 4-post ROPS. They did not make any open-station 986s. The 4-post ROPS had vinyl side/rear curtains and doors to turn it into a cab, but that's for bad weather, not to keep the A/C in during the summer.

JM,

Look long and hard at the front-end of the tractor.

Those front-hang loaders really tear up those front-end parts because all the weight is out over the front.
