What type of steel were the head studs for F-20/Regulars made from? I know Rice has them already made up, but was wondering if it was cheaper to get some rod stuck and a couple of dies and make my own. I am guessing it would be high carbon steel at the least.

I think I would go with the Grade 8 bolts as Pete suggested. They have been used on cars for years
with a lot more displacement and compression. Hal

I used a couple grade 8 hex bolts in my F-20 when the head went back on. Make sure to seal the threads though.

I think they are high carbon steel, making them difficult to thread even when anealed. Tempering them and making them strong enough would be a task requiring furnaces and quenching oils and other technology. Much cheaper to buy. Try Motion Industries, or Fastenall for studs at reduced cost. Jimn
