Got the alternator installed and fired the 400 up to try things out and it runs out of gas. I poured 5 gal in and it wont restart ?? Spins right over but not even a puff. I noticed gas runing out the carb so I waited a few min. and tried to start. This time puff a little smoke and tried to run but was severly flooded. Finally got it to stay running but with a lot of smoke. Gas is clean, tank has been sealed and has new strainer and line. Any ideas anybody, Thanks.

Float sticking, or a little bit of rust or other crude has gotten in to the needle/seat area. Turn off the gas. Start the engine and let it die, then pull the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb and catch the gas in something. Turn on the gas and let it flow a few minutes, doing that may clean out any junk that has gotten stuck in the needle/seat. Or if its a sticking float do as the other guy says to do

float is sticking. Try lightly tapping the carb on top to looseing the float while running. Or turn the petcock off and turn out the bottom screww on carb and see if the float won't come down. If not, take it apart and try again.
