My neighbor has two rear weights for sale, $200 for the pair. Is this a fair price, the going price? Are they hard to find? Thanks for your help. Bill

I just saw three of those weights sell for $17.50 at an auction Saturday. I bought 600 lbs of the half weights for $55.00 at the same auction. The suit case weights were all sold for $40.00 each. I knew I got a good deal. Also a nice 3-14" model 60 plow with mechanical lift sold for $1,000. It was not restored but only needed a new tire for the tail wheel and it was ready to plow.

William, Anything over a $50.00 average is just plain ol GREEDY and that person is looking for a sucker to pawn them off on!!! Our local B & M Tractor salvage @ Taylor Texas, has them for about $40 to $50 per set. At least JDs are that price ($40), and he has less JDs than IH wts. $50 should get you wts just about anywhere. I know for I picked up a set of JDs, 2 weeks ago for a reletives...4230. Hope this helps!
Later,
John A.

Sold a set back in July for $40. Depends on where you're at. $200 is -way- too high, they are too common.

M weights? I sell them for a LOT less than that. Probably around $50 a pair and the last set went to a friend and I got less than that cuz he'd bought some other stuff and helped me out.

Man I sure would like to find some resonably priced 100# IH suitcase weights.

A few years ago, salvage yards around here were getting no more than $20 apiece.

Ferrous metals have gone up since then but 71 cents ($100 divided by 140#) a pound is outrageous. If I had to replace all my weights, I would make a pattern and tell the foundry to pour them at their convenience. They are about the easiest casting to make.

However, you are not going to do that for two. You are also not going to buy them cheap from some distance and ship them. You should look around for others while offering no more than $40 ea to your friend.
