hi trying to get my h running bought it about a month ago but havent hd time to mess with it untill now. i rewired it it was converted to 12 volt with the old harness. checked all plugs cap rotor all that is good like new almost. the carb had alittle rust in it so i went ahead and put in seals needle and seat. tried to start it and it fires rigt up with the choke on. revv it up and it sputters real bad and dies if your quick enough you can work the choke and throttle to keep it running after you rev it up but i cant keep it running for more than 15 20 seconds it always fires right back up and it will idle nice for about 10 seconds then die. i think its something with the carb but im not sure what. thanks for any help. tim

i have already replaced the sediment bowl cleaned the tank i have good flow and that little mesh screen is no longer there because when i took the fitting out when i rebuilt the carb it came out in a couple peices. i have been messing with the float a bit because after it sits for about 10 min with the fuel on gas trickles out of the carb. i replaced the needle and seat when i rebuilt the carb because it was in the kit i bought but i think im going to put the old one back in because i cant get it to stop leaking. when i open the drain on the carb it has a good stream i let it drain into a small can for a min or two and that stayed even so i have good gas flow. tim

You may have more problems in the carb than just the needle and seat. The main metering tube might be partially plugged, and the fuel well might be full of crud as well. Might be time for a total disassembly and soaking in carb cleaner overnight. Also, how good is the gasket between the carb and the manifold? How about the gaskets between the manifold and the engine head? A vacuum leak at either of these two areas will cause the same symptoms as you describe.

First, look in the fuel tank, might be something in there that is partially blocking the flow. the next thing is the sediment bowl under the tank, remove the glass bowl and clean it out good, and then open the fuel petcock and see if gas flows freely, if that checks out, replace the sediment bowl. Next, remove the fuel line from the carb, and see how much fuel flows freely through the line, should be almost a flood, not just a trickle. If that checks out, remove the fuel inlet fitting from the carb, there should be a fine mesh brass screen attached to the fitting, make sure it is clean. If all of the above is in order, and you are still having problems, it"s back to square one with needle valve and seat in the carb. As a side thought, a weak ignition coil or improper ignition timing will cause the same symptoms.

You carb needs adjusted. I had the exact same problem. I forget which screw I turned, Thinking the idle mixture screw. I would turn it a bit, then take the choke off a bit, and went back and forth til i could run it good without the choke. starts right up now.
That was on a 300u tho.
The mnaual tells where and what the adjustment needles are. You do have a manual, dont you? Got mine at the case dealer for only $17, thought it was a good fair price.
