hello all I have a question I have been trying to get this farmall 666 going with some help from this site and locals, I am not putting any more money into it, the hydro trans needs replacing, but the rest of the tractor is in pretty good shape, everything else works,,is there a bigger need for these tractors whole [it would be easier for me to sell it that way, as I am also trying to clean up] or would there be a need for parts off of it like tin, motor, wide adjustable front end,3 point hitch, pto, etc???

I didnt buy it to part it, but I am running out of money and time to mess with it, any suggestions, thansk pat

Have you ever thought about donating it?

You might do better with the tax deduction then trying to sell the parts individually once you consider the hassle factor.

I have a qualified non-profit Farm Museum that might consider taking it for use on the Farm or as a static display allowing you to possibly take the "fair value" as a tax deduction. The “fair value” is determined by you in accordance with IRS guidelines as opposed to the value received by the non-profit for the tractor's sale. I’m not a tax professional so you’ll need to consult with one or read up on the IRS publications to determine if this deduction is available to you. www.irs.gov

I have a 656 Hydro and the hydro is rebuilt, but the 282 diesel is bad. It sure looks like your 666. I would take $1100 for it.

I pulled the injectors and when I got to number 4 back it was a real bear to get out. The glow plugs and the injectors look good though. When I pulled #4 injector the antifreeze came pouring out of the hole.. It is probably just a gasket because the antifreeze checks to -20F. I have about 5 other tractor rebuilds going on and winter is coming. In addition to all of this my Dad was diagnosed with colon and liver cancer and I am trying to hold down a job and take care of his place. Just way more than I can handle.

In my humble opinion, you will spend more time in ripping a tractor down to sell for parts than what you are going to get back.

If it's just a transmission problem, that's nothing but a matter of time and a little money to fix. Then at least you will have a saleable item, rather than a pile of leftover pieces that nobody wants.

Just remember, these things were designed and built by humans, and can be repaired by the same species.

Good Luck

Hi Pat,

Always hate to see an old tractor parted out, but sometimes it is the only course that makes any sense, dollar wise.

Where are you located? The tractor does not move at all?

Allan

hi allen, I was discussing this tractor with you a while ago, figured it was either the relief valves or check valves, I almost bought them at 600 bucks , but backed out, it will move 100 feet forward and chatter, and 50 feet back and chatter, I recently got a 544 that needed less work, and will do what I need, it is located in upstate ny, thansk for the help,

winter is coming and I have a million things to do, dont we all?,[just ran out of time and enthusiasm],, pat

Yes Sir,

I hear ya there. Not enough hours in the day nor enough days in the year. :>(

I really doubt if the transmission needs replaced, however, it is gonna take roughly $1K in parts alone for a guy to straighten out that chatter and get it to pull right.

Given that the tractor is a gas model with a bad transmission, buyers are gonna knock it's value in the head the way it sets now because it is just not a functional tractor. Salvage value is what? Maybe $1500?

The other side of the coin, if it was fixed up and dolled up properly, it could demand up to $7K from the right "urban cowboy" buyer.

Dunno, hate to see one go the way of the torch, but looking at it from purely a money standpoint, maybe partin' 'er out is your only choice? Depends how much you have in 'er, I guess.

Wished I lived closer to you. I'd let ya use my Hydro 70 while I danced thru your tranny for ya.

Allan
