There was one at the oakley tractor show this year in michigan. It was done very nicely. The motor fit in there like it was made for the tractor. They had a spacer plate on the bellhousing but everything looked great and fit under the stock sheetmetal perfectly. Later.

You can put whatever you choose into an M,but the fact of the matter is that the transmission was designed for about 45HP or so,not 90.IH themselves tried to up the horsepower without beefing up the transmission-with disasterous results.Later on,of course.

Detroit Diesel has never released a 90 hp 2-71. That is not to say one could not be modified by turning up the governor and fitting larger injectors. Engine longevity would suffer.

I don't know what the specification was for the kit installed 2-71. I would have to assume it was around 50 hp. That would be equivalent to one third of a contemporary industrial 6-71 at 150 hp. And one should bear in mind that the rated power was produced at a higher rpm than the M engine. 1400 (M) vs 1800 (2-71). Consequently, the torque was probably less than a M.

One should also bear in mind that the kit was not "shadetree" engineered. The package was sold thru Detroit Diesel dealerships and had to have been warranteed.

A while back a guy had a 1939 M with a 2-71 on ebay. It was done very nice and looked very clean.

The GM diesel, more commonly known as Detroit Diesel, had a Farmall M installation kit mfgd by DD or aftermarket. These tractors show up at Red Power Round-ups fairly regularly. Only the 2-71 was adapted.

I can sell you a 12V71 if you got a hankering to build something different.

A 12v71 or a 16v71 would make a real mean F-12.

I'd hate to garbage up an M-TA however.
