is there an easy way to get to the bolts that hold the radiator too the frame? i got one of them off, but i can't seem to get a wrench onto the other side and get a good bite because the rod you hook the crank too is in the way...and these bolts have been there a day or two so they're nice and tight... another question is i know the decals changed somewhere in the mid 40's...which one do i need (tractor's a 1940) and which guages do i need (i've seen 2 different styles of oil pressure guage.) Where can i get good quality farmall red? I want the nice "bright red", not the darker red that i see occasionally. and one last question for tonight...is there anywhere i can get a new light switch and wiring harness for all 3 lights (rear light also has a small red bulb inside)

thanks Ryan Olson

OEM Tractor Parts for the gauges and lights, possibly the harness, there are many other vendors, also. The decals should say McCormick Deering Farmall, the IH was not used until 1945, I believe. Your gauges will have IH surrounded by the C. As to paint, you can pay anywhere from $20 to $300 a gallon. 2150 as recommended below is not the correct color for 1940, if that matters, it did not appear until the 404 and 504 began production in 1961. The "correct" color is IH 50, it has to be mixed. The PPG number is 70019, DuPont 7410, it can be crossed to Sherwin Williams/Martin Senour/NAPA, etc. But, I really doubt if it is possible to duplicate the original color. The companies will vary in the shade. In other words PPG and DuPont will have different shades for IH 50, neither one of which is correct. So, do as you wish. You are probably just as well of with 2150 from your CIH dealer, but be warned that it will have an orange tint -- some people don't like that. I have heard that the color varies from batch to batch but I have never used any. I would not recommend paints sold by tractor stores, ie TSC and Van Sickle. It is the same alkyd enamel that came on your tractor, is low quality and will fade. But, if you keep it inside and keep it waxed it is probably ok. The 2150 from CIH is a member of the same family of paints, but has UV inhibitors added to retard fading.

OEM company 1-800-283-2122. They sell the EXACT dups for the Farmalls. They're even made by the company that made the originals. Rodchester(?)I think.

I use a flex-head ratchet wrench.

Your casting doesnt have the extra hole for access to the stud, but I have not had any trouble getting to mine.I use a 3/8 rachet with a deep socket and have been able to get off several that way. As far as decals, you should have the McCormick Deering like I have on mine. Not he beat pic I have but it shows you what you need. The OP gauge should be the one with the IHC on it.I painted mine with PPG paint and its a tad brighter than the Case IH paint. I think Case IH is selling "new" switches now, but they arent the same as the original,I see new reproduction and even used ones on ebay,I got my harness from Steel Wheel Ranch when I bought some other parts.

I think that you will want to use a deep socket and extension to get to the radiator bolt through the bottom of the casting. There should be a hold that lines up perfect for this. I am not much help on the decals.
Paint, go to Case IH. This is where you will get the highest quality "factory" paint. The next step up would be automotive paint.
