Can anyone tell me at what RPM maximum horse power can be achieved on a 1066. I typically run engine no faster than 2400 rpm but engine will turn 2600 (or faster). I am unsure if it is wise to run it that fast. Engine has about 4000 hrs. and has never been overhauled. The guy I bought tractor from said that the pump had been turned up to put out 147 hp although I have never had the tractor put on a dyno. Just curious if there is any advantage to running faster that 2400 rpm.(more horse power or fuel consumption under load). Thanks.....Rick

There are two different pumps for these engines. One runs at 2400 and the other at 2600. There is a little tag on the injection pump that gives it rpm range if you care to take a look to make sure that yours is a 2600. They will handle running that fast but thats up to you how to run your tractor. As far as the hp thats just fine running 147. The only problem with putting a super amounts of hp all you may end up doing is find the weak link in the drive train eventually.

IH always said that torque peaked out at 1800 rpm. This was a stock engine of course. If you're looking at the long haul, the 125 hp that these units came out of the factory with was matched up pretty well to the rest of the tractor as far as transmission, rear end, & such. Just my opinion.

Rick

By turning up the fuel and the rpms that 414 motor is able to go over 400 hp.

I would not run that way very long but they will do it.

Had the flow needle go bad on my 1086 (414 motor) and didn't know why it was smoking so bad.

When we put it on the dyno it had over 300 hp.

I was plowing at night when it happened so I ran it that way for a few hours without knowing.

About 2 months later I had to put a head gasket in the 1086. Hmmmm I wonder why it went bad.

Yes it will burn more fuel when you turn up the fuel or RPM's.

You can run those 414 safely at 180 HP but if you don't need it don't do it for economy reasons.
