OD-6

I have a chance to pick up an IHC OD-6.

In C H Wendell"s book 150 Years of International Harvester it lists an O-6 and an OSD-6.

Is the OD-6 just not mentioned in the book, or would it actually be an OSD-6?

In the book it shows the OS-6 having regular fenders rather than the full flared orchard fenders that were on the O-6. Would the OD-6 have the orchard fenders or not. I am told the flares are not on the tractor.

Would this tractor have the same engine that was in the TD-6?

I haven"t seen the tractor yet, but at the price, I can"t let it get away.

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Either way you are getting a relatively rare tractor. Only 352 ODS6's produced, according to Guy Fay. If the serial tag is still there the serial prefix will be ODBKS for the diesel OS6. As stated there was no OD6, from what I have read because of potential heat problems inside the shrouding, or perhaps IH simply chose not to build one.

There were no O-6 Diesels built. It is an ODS-6, a diesel version of the OS-6. There were supposedly very few ODS-6's built. The OS-6's typically had regular fenders, but I have seen pictures with partial orchard fenders without the cowling and batwings. Orchard fenders may have been an option, but apparently not many people put them on the OS-6's.
