I have a '74 1066 and have what I believe is a torsion bar broken. First indication was the plow jumped and seemed to have more clearance on the right side than the left. Upon further investigation, I found a shaft comming out of a tube on the right hand side where the lift arm connects that was sheared off at the splines that goes into a crank like fixture holding the lift arm.

What kind of trouble am I looking at in the replacement of this shaft? Is it a major job with major expense? Can a well expirenced shade tree mechanic do it, or is it a shop job?

Thanks for any help or advice..Ts

Ts after you get the torsion bar replaced you will have to go through the adjustment check to see if it is working right. That should be in manual also.

Well it is not that big of a dael , first drain the Hyd . oil next remove the PTO but becareful not to damage the pickup tube on the pto when you pull it next remove the top link plate remove the retaining clips and the three point arm pins they can be the toughest part of the whole job sometimes they come out and sometimes they don't and the fight is on . Now if that 1066 is set up for narrow row then you may have to pull one wheel. Get a Munal on this as it will show what ya need . IF ya have a problem just give a shout.
