On the 100, does the positive side get grounded and the negative go to the starter?????

I just saw a old manual that had a smaller IH tractor like mine wired this way so I thought I might ask. Seems like a crazy way to connect the battery being used to automotive batteries.

also...

Anyone have a spare rebuildable carb for a super A or 100 they'd like to sell? :-)

Yes, 6 volt systems were positive ground. Cars, trucks and tractors. Dave.

Since I've gone to 12V is it OK to swap to + to starter now?

The more I play with this thing the more it's like working on a T with big wheels.

If you put a 12v delco generator from a farmall with 12v system from factory, and the appropriate regulator, and lights, then it will remain pos ground, do not change it. If it is a standard auto alternator wired correctly (See Bob M wiring diagrams in the archives for GM alternators) it must be neg ground, or smoke will come out. JimN

If you have done a true 12V conversion and are using an alternator now instead of the old generator, then yes, you would switch the cables, running the positive cable to the starter and the negative to ground and switching the leads to and from the coil, etc.
On the otherhand, if you have simply crammed a 12V battery into your battery box, then leave the cables the way they are.
