Our local (30 Miles away) Case/IH dealer said they can't get rear axle seals for my 58 IH 240 Utility. Any idea where I can locate them or is there a cross reference number that is the same? Thanks. David.

Sorry that I haven't replied sooner but it looks like you've got it under control. I've been gone all day today with church then 55 miles away to watch Tom Knapp's exabition shooting and then to a birthday party right after that. Busy day but worth while.

Done! I got the part numbers and phone number. Will call them Tuesday. I didn't have the part # at the local dealer. Too small an order? C&G lists a felt washer for the axle. Do I need that also? Thanks. David.

Yes, get the felt washer. It should not matter how small your order is as it comes from the nearest distribution center if it is not in stock. For the old tractors, parts are usually not in stock. Yours gets sent in with everyone elses order, so no order should be too small -- expect to pay shipping. If your dealer gives you problems, and you can't find it elsewhere, Carter and Gruenwald will get it for you in 3-5 days.

If you gave your dealer the part number, his computer should have found them in a few seconds -- if no number, he just didn't want to mess with it. Those are standard seals, virtually all are. Take it to any place that sells bearings and seals, they can measure it for you and get them for you, even with no number. I find it hard to believe that CIH has discontinued them -- you might call Carter and Gruenwald, a CIH dealer in WI that does a lot of mail order -- I don't have the number handy, www.cngco.com.
