They all (F-12 & F-14) will do that when pull starting. That's not to say there isn't a problem it's just that when pull starting, one wheel going in reverse and the other forward is not an indication of a problem. With patience someone smarter than me will eventualy come along and tell you why.
Good luck.

Check the brakes. you may have one sticking. The left brake on my F-12 likes to stick sometimes when it sits.

Something is stuck or jambed in front of the differential. Could be anything from a broken gear to a stuck engine. I'm assuming that you're in high gear and have decent traction?

The engine has just had major overhaul. It slid on concrete, asphalt and sod. It did start from hand cranking first, but died quickly, so we decided to pull it. So we know it runs. I had it in high gear which is still very slow. I may need to water the tires to get more traction.

Turn the engine over again by hand to make sure it's still free. If it does still turn over then unhook the plug wires and put the tractor in road gear and crank it over. If it will still crank in gear you should be able to hook the wires back up and pull start it by slipping the clutch to get the engine turning. Where you mention water in tires I'm guessing it has rubber tires not steel wheels. If it has steel wheels and no lugs on them you'll likely never get it to turn over by pulling. Jake

Thanx for the suggestion. It has 4 new tires and it does crank. I took bolts out of U-joint and rocked it back and forth in each gear and nothing locked up there. Will try the high gear cranking w/wires off. B
