When i bought my '49 Super A, she was leaking gas from the carb. I opened it up, and look what I found! Think this might have been my problem? =:-)

Thanks guys, but it's just the difference between former $120 camera, and my new $450 camera, a Canon S2IS. It has 'macro' and 'supermacro' for those close-up pictures. (Zooms to 48x also!)
I was willing to spend the extra bucks, because when you have kids, you want to make sure you don't want to miss any of those precious moments, like this with my young "lady"! LOL!

Did this carb ever work? That is just unbelieveable that someone would modify their float like that!

Yup. She would run no problem. Just leak.
All I can guess is that he was in the middle of a job and didn't want to wait for parts.
And since it ran...

I wish that was my only problm, the darn valve on mine is leakying, well sticking, and i'd had to remove the upper portion of the carb, which is a pita.
Still weird they thought foam would do the job of that float.
Shows ya how stupid/ignorant people can be... =)

Of course with all the crud, I had more problems than just the float!

Yeah, you have a crappy carb but you seem to have a nice camera and/or good photography skills.
