If you have a M High Drum with a 7.25 X 20 front tire and you where to "want" to drive it on the beach.. some 60 miles of beach... is there a wider tire and/or do you think a 7.25 would be fine..

Put another way - whats the best thing to do if I sto take the tractor down to the beach and have a little fun! Would a single wheel front end give me problems??

Hey Old, That's quite the set-up on that tractor. Is there one for the Farmalls like that, I sure could use one for grading our dirt road. Bob

The first generation fast hitch (Farmall 300-400) can be setup like that. The front of the hitch has its own cylinder that raises and lowers under power. I think its primary function is to level a mounted fast hitch land plow.

Anyway, it is not much work to attach a piece of heavy 8-10" channel and do some light grading.

My single front tire MD had a 10.25-10" tire on it.
I would also suggest using 1/2 normal air pressure. Checking with the local constable is a good idea. If cars and trucks are there it should be permitted.

The fork off of a 214, 414, or maybe 6xx cotton picker would allow for a larger tire size, so you can use a balloon-type tire, much wider than what the standard cotton fork would allow.

With a 20" rim, you've got quite a selection of truck tires to choose from, but the yoke will limit you on how wide you can go before the tire starts to rub. In all likelihood, what little width you'll be able to gain won't make all the work and running around worthwhile.

That said, I can't really comment on the suitability of a hi-drum M as a dune buggy, let alone a stock M. My gut tells me you're taking your life into your hands if you're planning to go bombing around in road gear.

No I was not going to go full speed up into the dunes/etc.. I just wanted to "putt putt" on the beach next to the water line going maybe 2/3/4 miles a hours.. checking things out.. no going up into the really loose sand next to the dunes..

Just want to do something with the collectible 5000 lb sitting there!

Better check with local laws before you do that. In some areas it can cost you a big fine if you do what your wanting to do.
