I have a couple questions about fairbanks mags. I don't know itf you know any thing about them or not but at this point any help might be good.

Have seen a couple of mags that had some of the "tar" from the coil leak down onto the "armature" & cause hard turning. I guessed the tar got soft from hot weather or engine overheating. Taking the armature out, & cleaning with a solvent soaked rag worked well.

Well the problem is that it doesn't turn as free as it should. Seems way to hard to turn it no matter which way I try. I know it should tunr easy. This is on an old Gravily model L lawn tractor by the way. Is there any way to free it up some how. I have it soaking on the impulse side with tranny fluid right now and it seems to be helping

I recently worked on a mag that turned hard, I found that there were some metal filings on the armature, causing it to drag. After cleaning it, all was well.
