I would like to remove the M & W Clutch Anchor (live PTO) from my 1941 M and I'm not sure what is required to return it to stock. Any help would be appreciated.

Tear the clutch apart and make sure it is free of oil and grease. If it where an H I could give you part numbers for the seals and bearings to cross reference to, haven't worked on an M yet.

To replace you will need an M bull pinion shaft and seal retainer.

If your not in a hurry to get fixed, I have a working M&W clutch I'm going to sell. On a M that I just use with loader and plan to remove. Or can furnish parts to change back to original.

The M&W is a disirable option. You should think about trading it for another M that is not equipped.

But anyway, you need an IH bull pinion and some brake parts. My M&W is still in its shipping box and uninstalled. For that reason I can't be more specific.

Wardner, How much would you want for your clutch?

Mine fits a H. Don't think the clutch is interchangable. Not interested in selling anyway.

Sounds like you need new facings. I have seen posts on this board where new linings can be cut and installed on your plates. I am sure someone will come along and furnish the name of a shop willing to do the job. If not, perhaps you should check out "Services" at Hemmings Motor News. I think they have an internet edition. Let google do the walking.

Wardner,
The clutch is not set up like the standard ones with a facing attached to a plate; but rather a sandwich assy of alternating metal and fibre discs. The metal discs have teeth on the inside, the fibre discs have teeth on their outside.

I can think of two ways the clutch will slip: -1 is for the adjustment nut to be too loose (I think the spec was ~30-40lbs on the shift handle) so the plates actually slip on their surface; -2 is for the teeth on the outside of the fibre discs to get chewed off which is what happened on my Super M.

Unless the fiber disc material has been declared illegal, I still think someone has to be cutting it. I suppose it was die cut in the old days but we have newer technologies for cutting difficult or hazardous material. Hydrocutting is one. With computer control, the setup is probably cheap but maybe out of the reach for an individual who needs one set. If failure of M&W clutches is common, there should be a market that can reward an individual or business for offering the product. I think I would start by talking to an engineer at M&W. They were cordial to me when when I needed info on guage faces for one of their dynos.
