I have a 53 Super A with a leaky hydraulic steel line (where it meets the front manifold). Does anyone know if replacements are available (either Case/IH or after market)? I was also told to silver solder it...why silver solder vs regular solder or brazing? Thanks for any input.

There are a set of these lines listed on eBay for $29.99 "Buy it Now" (I think).

I am not the seller, BUT I have done business with this seller many, many times.

He is a very honest seller, and has the feedback to prove it.

Maybe this can help you out.

I had a new old stock hydraulic manifold and tried to sell it on E bay. No one bid. I traded it a couple years ago to Roy Edwards who deals in IH parts. He may still have it. Also, Justin W will likely have one. Send me an E mail and I will reply with the phone numbers.

You'll be convinced to pursue the silver solder solution as soon as you find out what a good used set of hydraulic lines will cost, let alone new ones if such things exist.

I would use silver solder. You would need to remove the steel lines and clean the area where the leak is with a wire buffing wheel or 320 wet or dry. Be sure to use a flux that's for silver solder.
You can get it with the flux attached to the silver solder sticks. It isn't cheap, but you will like the results. You could also replace the lines using hydraulic brake lines and double flaring them with the correct length. I used hydraulic hose on a Super C since that's what was used. Blew one line when plowing when raising the plow. Hal

Cue P, The bottom line is that you need to drain the manifold and remove the lines for the repair. Mine have been silver soldered and they are fine now.

Silver solder has far more strength than regular Lead/Tin solder. Brazing is also a high strength solution. If the leac is a crack, the repair needs to be a patch covering the crack on both sides at least 3/16" (4mm), and most if not all the way around the tube, to prevent rebreaking the crack. A brazeweld, with buildup of material over the crack might work, but is uglier, and usually less durable. Good luck with it, JimN
