H engine, water jacket FULL of rust scale

took the side cover off and you know how there are those two metal towers on the inside of that water cover...? well they are rusted away, gone. Took that cover off because the drain plug was so choked with scale.

Did the previous owner not put in antifreeze, and just run on straight water?

Also, Can these H engines take some rust abuse in there and still survive, how does one guage when the rust is too severe?

By punching a hole through the casting into the cylinder with a screwdriver... ha ha ha.

no really, this tractor is quickly becoming a parts machine, though I did want to salvage the block, looks like I can forget that idea, huh.

My guess is that 10 out of every 10 H's look like yours. Flush it out good and put on a new cover.

Oh no, I wouldn't get too excited. The cast block won't rust as fast as the steel cover.
