How much longer do I need to extend the frame rails on a M farmall to get a 315 combine gas motor to fit in? Does it hurt to go over what is needed a bit? What would the length be compared to say a D414 if I decided to bolt that in instead?

What engine came in the 315? 4 or 6 cylinder?

The DT414 won't fit between the rails... Too narrow. Wouldn't it tear the rear end to shreds anyway? What would you do about mounting, flywheel and starter?

A 315 has a six cylinder engine. Just about all six cylinder IH engines share the same bolt pattern as the M. You just have to extend the frame rails to make it fit length wise. A naturally aspirated 414 does not have enough horsepower to tear up a rear end on a M. I have seen people fix up Ms with over 150 horse and it does not hurt the rear end.
