Can a 263 use a larger sleeve/bore 291 engine kit. I've been told the engines are the same?

Yes you can make a 263 into a 291 as there is a special kit for this and it also requies boring of the block . the stock 291 sleeves and pistons can not be used as the flange on a 291 sleeves are samller the coverson kit has a wider flang . I have done a bunch of change overs . Back when this was first offered there was a complet kit that had a recurve kit for the dist. to cut back total advance from the 263 settings to the 291 set as total advance on a 291 engine should not exceed 20 degrees and if ya can keep it at 18 it is better then along with that ya goota run the 93 octain gas . A 263 in a 560 ya can get away with the 89 if ya want it to run correctly but when ya get to the 06 seires ya got to upgrade the gas as they were built for the 93 at the lowest to be run in them . At the time they were built reg. gas at the pump was 95 octain . Now here we are in todays world and they call 93 hightest that would make and old 292 cheve ping.

The 291 sleeve kit can be used in the 263 block.
They have them on this forum under Marketplace to the top left on your screen. Hal

The 263 block will have to be machined to accept the 291 sleeves. Also the 291 sleeves have a tighter press fit than the 263 sleeves.

Thanks for the info. Why the tight fit? Any specs I should know before having this done?

Thanks Hal. I'll do that instead of running without sleeves for a 301.

Sleeves should be used on all engines or have removable cylinders (jugs) like VW used on the Beetle. Packard used them during WW2 on the Patrol Torpedo (PT) boats. Three of these 1600hp
engines were used. They would sure suck up some gasoline. I think they used 140 octane too. Hal
