When I push in the clutch, sometimes (about 50% of the time) it will not fully disengage. I adjusted the clutch operatoring rod inside the clutch housing tube and also greased the clutch release bearing but it did not improve the performance. There are no unusual sounds when the clutch is either in or out. Any thoughts as to what the problem might be? - Thanks.

If the splines on the clutch shaft are grooved from wear, the disk can catch on them and remain up against the flywheel (this can be intermittent). The result is pretty severe dragging of the disk on the F/wheel. Pulsing would be due to uneven wear or hot spots on the F/wheel surface. The other possible cause is a friction surface comming off of the disk. It may jamb in the free space on some ocassions, and not others. I would put a clutch in it just because the pulsation you mention indicates issues that are probably not adjustable from the outside. JimN

Are you saying when tractor is in gear and moving forward and you push in the clutch and it keeps moving 50% of the time?

What I mean is that 50% of the time I will push in the clutch and it will disengage completely with no problems. The other 50% it will only partially disengage - the tractor lunges forward in pulses, even though the clutch is pushed fully in and held there. Sometimes it works like it's supposed to, and sometimes it doesn't. Theres no real pattern to it either. - Thanks.

Sounds like something loose flying around in there. Maybe a flywheel retaining bolt came out and is loose inside the clutch?

one of the fingers on the pressure plate may be cracked.
