I'm in need of changing the lubricant oil in the rear axle housing but not sure what lubricant oil is to used. Should it be IH Torque Amplifier Transmission Lubricant additive or something else?
I have a 1962 Farmall 140. Thanks.

I guess you are aware that there are three places to put transmission oil in a 140. The transmission/differential housing, and each of the final drives. There is no drain on the final drives, the pans have to be removed. The final drives hold 3 pints each. The transmission holds 5 quarts if equipped with the PTO and belt pulley. Final drives fill to the bottom of the fill holes which are on the inside cast part of the final drive where the drawbar attaches. Transmission fills to the level plug located on the left had side front of the transmission case behind the brake rod. You have to disconnect the brake rod pin to get to the level plug. Don't overfill the transmission, as you will have trouble with leaks at the shaft seals.

The manual calls for Hy-Tran. Conventional 80-90 gear oil will be OK too.
