Wondering if an IH 1000 or 2000 or either loader is made to fit a Farmall 340, Farmall 340 w/wide-front, International 340 or International 240 - provided I can aquire one of these tractors. (come on you guys, NO, I don"t need one of each of these tractors) Thanks in advance.

I have a 2001 loader on a Farmall 340. I think the main difference between a 2000 and a 2001 is that the 2000 had cylinders on each side of the arms to tip the bucket. The 2001 has either a trip bucket or one cylinder in the middle to tip the bucket. As someone else mentioned, 2000 and 2001 designed for 240, 340, and 460 etc. (I can give you the exact list from the manual if you want since I have the operator"s manual for both. I currently have a problem with priming the hydraulics on my Farmall 340, and I think others have had a similar problem. The loader is heavy duty enough and the 340 seems to handle it okay, but lots depends on how one uses it. It is easy to abuse a tractor with a loader on it. Probably, of course, get faster hydraulics with more modern tractor; always trade-offs with costs, etc.

Hi Al,

Unless you wanting to complete a collecting series of tractor numbers, I'd look for something other than a 340.

Since I bought my IH-340 10yrs ago I've seen very few pass thru here and most were just like mine, needing a whole bunch of work and cost a pretty nickle.

I was wanting the backhoe/loader that came with mine. The 340 just happen to be attached to them.

And talk about a gas hog!

But then again, last summer I drove accross 7 States to get my IH-706D.

Al: When I gave my advice yesterday on the 2000 loader side of the issue, I wasn't quoting a book, but rather speaking from experience. I owned a 2000 loader for a number of years, it came with a farm I bought. When the owner-vendor bought it new in 1967 he also bought new, Farmalls 504 and 656 and had the loader installed on the 656. After a couple of years, wanting the 656 free for field work, he cut 6" out of loader frame back where it bolts to rear axle housings and mounted it on the 504. At sale time he advised me loader was much too heavy for the 504.

Since I also wanted to keep 656 free for field work, I mounted the loader on my 560D. He had saved those pieces, so I just welded them back in and since the mounting kit for 656 and 560 were the same the loader bolted right up to 560. I could quickly see this loader was not for a short tractor. I was exactly 1 week making a 1500 lb. counter weight for 560 fast hitch.

These are a big loader, capable of standing a Utility or 4 cylinder Farmall on it's nose if enough hydraulic presure were applied. Now, I don't care what tractor list anyone comes up with for a 2000 loader. In my days farming, about all the engineering that ever went into a farm tractor loader was customer demand. Sure you can put that loader on a 240-340, but without a ton of counter weight, you wont dare leave the ashphalt, concrete or hard gravel driveway.

Before the 2000 loader on my 560, I had a Cockshutt 540, (about same size and configuration as a 340 Utility) with a heavy Wagner loader. About the same weight loader as the 2000. They only time my dad and I ever used the Cockshutt for anything but loader work was in haying time. We used it to pull wagons to the barn. Everytime we took the 1500 lb. counter weight off the hitch, we had to remove the loader. It wasn't safe, with loader weight up front and no counter weight. Step on the brakes and rear wheels would just slide even on the slightest inclines. A good working Farmall Cub would haul as much hay on a wagon.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but IH also made 1701 and 2001 loaders, which were more appropriate for the smaller tractors.

Hi Al, the 2000 series loaders were a very heavy duty loader and were designed for the 50 HP and up tractors. There was a 1500 series that was designed for 30 to 50HP tractors like B414.

My brother has a 2250 loader on his 495D about 42HP. He uses it to move round bales and has had many front axle problems. The loader is to heavy for the tractor.

My 2 cents

from the 2000 loader manual..."...designed for use on International 240, 340 and 460 utility, 340 and 460 Industrial, 404 and 404 Lo-Boy, 2404, 2424 and 2424 lo-boy, 504, 2504, 606, 2606, and b-414 Tractors."
"To operate the loader on International 240 utility, 404 and 404 lo-boy, 2404, 2424 and 2424 lo-boy, and B-414 tractors, a 17 gallon per minute front mounted power take off driven pump is required."

For what it's worth,
Kevin

Al: The 1000 loader is SA, 100, 130 and 140 specific, it doesn't fit anything else. The 2000 is quite a heavy loader, most of them went on 6 cylinder Farmalls. I have seen them on 340s and 504s but they look heavy, weight is too far out front. There were loaders in between, I've forgotten the exact numbers 15xx and 18xx

If I"m not mistaken, the 1000 model loader was the one arm loader for the cub, 130, and 140 tractors. The 2000 model would be the one to go on a 340
