MY SON JUST PURCHASED A 1256 WITH 1000 PTO.
I WAS GOING THRU THE ARCHIVE AND IT LOOKS LIKE A $400 KIT IS REQUIRED TO CHANGE IT TO 540.
HAS ANY BALED WITH A VEMEER BALER AT 1000 RPM?

The 1000 RPM PTO unit was all you could get from the factory on the 1206, 1256, and 1456. IH figured that the 540 RPM implements of the day couldn"t handle all of that power. Most dealers ordered those tractors with no PTO unit at all and then ordered a 540/1000 unit through parts and installed it. You"ll need a complete 540/1000 unit if you wish to convert, and that will probably cost more like $600. Check your baler"s manual, most round balers can be converted from 540 to 1000 fairly easily.

I don't know about your baler, but our CaseIH baler can be converted from 540 to 1000 by simply flipping the gearbox around.

Funny thing, I've only seen the IH tractors with no PTO at all (a 1566) or the dual PTO set up...
