I need some help guys, I was out pulling a set of drags around the field today and have a big problem. While making a left turn at the end of the field I tapped the left brake to help it around when the front end was sliding. As soon as I tapped the brake I heard a snap from somewhere under the seat and the tractor stopped dead. All gears are out. Clutch, brakes, and T/A feel normal and there is no noises or antyhing. Could I have snapped an axel or something?

I went up to the field and took a look at the tractor today. Hubs are intact. Fired it up and I could here a very faint squeak in the clutch/ TA area of the tranny. I looked up through the clutch inspection cover but everything looks normal. I still have to figure out how to get it off the top of the mountian! It"s not a real fun ride when the tranny is there to hold it back. Can"t wait to try it freewheeling. Think I better hook my Dad"s Case 830 to the back of it. I"ll never hear the end of that! Thanks for the Help so far, I"ll post again when I get it back to the barn. Dose anybody know a place to get parts for this thing?

Well there are a few could be here like others have said could be a hub problem but with a quick look you will see that as for the clutch i don't think so could be the spider gears in the carrier could be a broken bull pinion shaft or it vary well could be that ya done and wentr and sheard off the bolts or rivets that hold the ring gear to the carrier as this was once a problem with the 656 and most of them have been repaired or recalled and fixed but you may be the lucky one that get to D.I.Y. And if you do have to get into the rear end just make sure that you mark ALL pices and parts as to just where and what side they came off of and go back the same way as this will help with getting thing back as close to factory as you can with out doing a whole bunch of set up work. If you do not have to remove the pinion DON'T

Oach,

I know a fella who completely tore a tractor down to parade rest looking for the same problem.

After one heck of a lot of work, he finally found out later that the key had broken off in the wheel and the axle was just spinning willy-nilly inside the cast.

Let us know what you find,

Allan

i was picking corn withs 560 d with a 2mh picker and it quit moving on the end of the field and had one heck of a time finding what was wrong. The axel clamp on the wheel was worn out.

Assuming a non-hydro, could be the center out of the clutch [or splines on the clutch shaft].

Yeah, you could have snapped the pinion. Found a 560 that way one time. It was broken in such a way that it would move part of the time.

I would say that it one of two things. The coupler from the clutch input shaft to the TA or the bolts on the ring gear to differential housing.

oachman That is going to be a hard one with looking. I would first pull the brake that you used to turn with to check the pinion shaft if not the pinion shaft then pull the third link plate off and check differencial ring gear bolts and bull gears. This one you will have to just look.
