Can someone look up what the oil capacity of the steering gearbox is?

I am at work and my manuals are at home, and I am calling around for some heavy weight oil as per a previous post.

One of the oil dealers recomended a semi fluid grease, but only sold it in 5 gallon, so he is trying to find someone that would sell me a small amount.

Randy

A tube of corn head grease from your local tractor dealer is excellent for a steering box. Maintains consistency in both hot and cold weather and is "wet" enough to do the lubrication job. Not expensive, either. mike

I got a pint size can of bearing grease for mine when 90wt didn't want to stay. My uncle, whom I never contradict (he's a minister), said grease is so much better now than it was 60 years ago that it's fine for this use.
Good Luck, Wm

yeah, I think a lot of people just put grease in there. That's what I did on an "H".

Speaking from experience here, if you haven't rebuilt it (new bushings and seals) it will probably leak. I have used 85w-140 in mine and it's empty within a week and I have a messy tractor.

Now I just take the cover off once a year and pump the spaces full of gun grease. Guess I probably should fix it the right way someday...
