I am just getting a W-30 running and am wondering what the clearance for the rod bearings should be. Being a splash lube, how loose should the bearings be. They seem to be noisy when the hand holes are removed.

Have a W-30 and we use 30w detergent oil in it. Have had the inspection plates off during running (interesting to watch, but can be messy). There is no apparent foamin action going on.

My tractor engine was running fine, so I didn't have to crack open the engine.

Did you rebuild your hand brake? Takes a little special attention that I worked thru.

Jerry,I broke a 10-20 loose and plasticgaged the rod bearings at .003,probally .005 would'nt be to much,my regular I made sure they were loose enough to move from side to side.Ive always heard to use non-detergent oil in dipper type motors becaues other oil will foam under these conditions
