In the thread on PB Blaster, someone mentioned liking the smell of MMO. I also like it.

It took me a while, but I finally figured out what the smell reminds me of: those wax teeth/lips we used to buy around Halloween time. MMO smells exactly like wax teeth.

That doesn't say much for wax teeth. However, it does explain, perhaps, why the smell is so inviting. It reminds us of those days gone by.

We use it in all of our air tools. I saw some in the Wal-Mart yesterday in middle Georgia.

The Piper Cub guys use it to reduce lead deposits when using AV gas. According to the article, the Military used it by the 55 gal. barrel.

I have no idea when it was recalled but I know that it was and is probably back on the market by now. I also tried lots of parts stores and got the same stories. My concern is what changes were made? Walmarts had to send theirs back sometime ago.

As as snake oil I have used it for at least 50 years I think and it seams to correct sticky floats, sticky rings etc. One never knows. It is just a habit with me

When was it recalled? I have not had any trouble getting it in Central Ga. Bought some this week from my supplier.

I am not sure most people are aware that the EPA had Marvel Mystery Oil recalled . It currently is not available in western NC. Found some in a conv store in GA covered with dust and got all of it. Evidently something will be changed in the formulation to make it acceptable. Have used it as long as I can remember. Great stuff.

I believe it is oil of wintergreen that they put in the MMO to make it smell nice. I've had good luck using that stuff as well... :o)

Why is it so good? in reply to Steven@AZ, 08-17-2006 08:51:00
I always thought it was the standard snake oil. I have never tried it though.

It has secret ingredients divulged to no one except the makers of ATF.

Interesting responses about ATF. I have heard stories to that effect and that State Troopers in New York routinely put ATF in their oil changes.

I don"t know about that. ATf is not designed for the heat of combustion chamber rings etc. Anybody know anything about this?
