My Father has had a Farmall Super A (1950) tractor for many years that he has worked his garden with. He's 85 and has cancer so I am trying to get his Super A rebuilt and painted so he can have a few months to enjoy it. I have never worked on a Farmall even though I have rebuilt several 2 cylinder John Deeres. When I began to take the Super A apart, I noticed that it did not have a temperature gauge. It only has an amp and oil gauge. Did the Super A's have a temperature gauge? If not, can you put one on and how would you do that? Thanks for your help. Robert Keen

It was an option same as lites and so forth. Yours mite have a plug in the head for the sender or even a place in the lower block outlet that would have a plug where the sender went. There was a small bracket that bolted on the gov housing for the guage. If the tractor came to run on the distallite fuel from the factory it would have had shutters also. You can get the guage from a dealer and drill and tap the lower housing for the sender. any more info needed just send an E-MAIL

I have a 1950 A and it does not have a temperature gauge. They cool by thermosyphon with out a water pump and can run close to boiling under a good load with no great concern. If they were all-fuel they had a gauge so that one would know when to swith from gas to kerosene or distillate.

Will, Super A has the same motor as the Super C , 123 CI, which has a water pump and temp gage. Sending unit goes in the right side of the thermostat (upper radiator hose) housing. HTH

I don't think so, Keith. A super A has a 113 c.i. engine with no water pump. Only the very last model of the super A, a super A-1, a few of which were built in part of 1954, had the super C 123 engine with water pump. mike
