I put a new clutch and pressure plate in a 560 farmall. when I depress the clutch the throw out bearing is not contacting the fingers on the pressure plate. do I have to adjust the fingers on the pressure plate? Thanks Scotty

I ran into the same problem putting a new pressure plate in our 460D. The finger height was not preset. Off the top of my head, it needed to be set at 2 7/32 height. An IT manual would have the measurement. Once i made the adjustment it worked fine.

We had same trouble on an old H. It was solved by shimming by
putting washers where the clutch bolts to the flywheel. I suppose the flywheel was ground wrong as the grinder was about half the age of the wheel. Hope this helps.

A short time ago a friend of mine installed a new clutch and rebuilt pressure plate on a Super H. He also couldn't adjust the clutch until he adjusted the fingers. It was fairly easy to do, I would suggest useing a feeler gage when adjusting.

good luck

This tractor came from the factory with no t.a. I did adjust the clutch linkage and it is not enough. The old pressure plate someone did adjust the fingers unevenly. I did take the shipping bolts out and there were no nuts as they were threaded into the pressure plate. Scotty

Well then there is something wrong with the flywhell as the step is not cut correctly as i said before they are preset for finger hight as to what they should be and the only couple things that could cause a problem is that the disc is wrong or not installed correctly or the shipping bolt were not removed and your case you did that or the step on the flywheel is not cut wright and this is causeing the fingers to be pulled down to far . In all the clutches i have installed myself i have never found one that i needed to change finger hight now on tractors that have had a bunch of clutches put in in there lifetime and the flywheels ground down i have come close to running out of adjment on the rod . Now weather or not this tractor has or does not have a T/A this makes no differance on the clutch or pressure plate. that i can see in my books.

TV,
While I would never dispute or start an argument with someone of your experience, but I must say that with parts being made overseas its impossible to get things right like it use to be.I have installed several new pressure plates on several old Farmalls lately and have yet to find one that had the fingers adjuted correctly. Its just like spark plugs, the gap may or may not be right, and if you check a few thaey may be right out ofthe box,but you check them anyways right? Now if his fingers are non adjustable then I would tend to agree with you that something was installed right.

Well now as far as not getting a quality clutch here i don't know as all i ever used was Hy Capacity as i was a dealer for them and in all the parts that i got and installed or sold i never had a bad part . Now it is like this it only cost a dollar more to go first class and when one is in busness ya can afford a come back because of a defective part and i looked into all the aftermarket parts supplyers and the maine reason why i went with Hy Cap is becaiuse IF i did get a bad part and here again it was made by man and sometime somebody will mess up Hy Cap would pay ME to replace there defective part the rest did not so if i was a rebuilder and i was offeren this warranty then i would bust my donkey to ship super good parts as if i had to pay some wrench twister to replace my defective part it would not take long to go broke . I was approched by BMD and also Allied they did not offer this and there warrany was not as strong on there parts either . Also if i ran into a problem and i did they had and excelent tech support that i could call . So if the part that you think is cheaper the there has to be a reason . Now like on the steped flywheels there are a lot of machine shops that realy do not know the propper way of doing them and cutting the step correctly and i used only two differant shops and gave them the step hights for all the I H flywheels and i would double check before i put it back on . So guys it is like this cheap is not always the way to go . The main reason that this junk is flooding our market is because we want to save 10 bucks but end up with 500 bucks in problems .

I personally dont have a clue on the tractor your working on, but I would never consider something being preadjusted if its adjustable.

Finger hight is preset , now did you remove the shipping bolts from the pressure plate ????? and did you make a clutch linkage adjustment along with a T/A adjustment ????
