International 300 Utility questions?

Hey guys, I just recently purchased an International 300 Utility with a FED currently with a manure bucket. I plan on making it a power dump and homemaking a "dirt plate" as they call it. A few questions guys.
Does anyone make 2 way cylinders for the lift arms so I can have downpressure? I have thought of actually putting my own port in the front since there is ample room on the endcap, but I'm thinking the seals in the front are not designed for that much hydraulic pressure, if any. What size is the exhaust studs, particularly the end that goes into the block. I spent 6 hours getting a broken stud out, and the threads are kinda iffy at best, so I want to be sure I use the right stud. If it does not hold, I will either helicoil it, or JB weld a stud in if all else fails.
How many grease zerks are on this thing? just need a number so I know if I got them all, I have seen over 20 so far...
I was under the impression that the rear end is filled with gear oil, however, when I removed the homemade toolbox (bolts to 2 of the PTO cover bolt holes, mine has no PTO), there was greae on the end of the bolts, not oil??
My brother is welding the exhaust manifold, hopefully it holds, he's welded cast iron manifolds for me before with no issues. Is this a common issue where the manifold cracks?
I need a new muffler. I dont want to order one. What kind of auto muffler would u recommend? I'm thinking a little one from a metro, or something along that lines. any ideas? I dont wanna order one, cause they arent cheap, and there is a 3 week lead time at my dealer?!?!?!
What sort of fluids are recommended, I know to use 30w ND oil. what sort of hydraulic fluid do I use?
Are the power steering units from the 340-350's swappable? I'm assuming I would need some hoses and fittings to run it with the hydraulic pump. When I was driving it home, I had a few issues. I thought I ran out of fuel, cause it would only stay running if I had the choke pulled out. I hve cleaned the fuel filter, but havent tried it since there is no exhaust atm. I went to check the throttle linkages, and the linkages dont go to the carb? Seems to go to a "govenor" I guess. I'm not sure how these things work, I'm used to the lawnmower carb setups. Anyone know if there is an online manual archive? I think its a load that people are selling manuals on ebay. I understand service mnuals, but you look at most manufacturer's websites and they have manuals for download all the time. Anwyas...
I am very scared of this thing. Petrified I'll get killed on it. Has anyone ever rolled this thing over? Particularly flipped it backwards? I thought about making a "wheelie bar" to hook to the hitch so that if the front did riaise up, it only would til it got the wheelie wheels on the ground, then the rear wheelies would just loose traction. Is this ridiculous? What about mounnting a rollcage? It would have to be one hell of a rollcage, but thats no issue, I got the equipment and materials. Where would one mount such a contraption?
Anyways, thanks for any help guys!! =)

anyone know abut the exhaust stud size?
I have found an online tractor manual site (well a part of a site), but there is not alot of manuals on it yet. I plan to buy one, probably a reprint, when I find one REASONABLY priced (I cosider $40 for 50 pgs a ripoff).
How do I tell if it has a TA?

BTW, Dont say I shouldnt run this machine. I have legitimate concerns about a 2 ton piece of cast iron rolling on me. I'm running this on flat terrain and using the front loader.

A few more qustions. When I let off on the clutch it takes like a second to actually go. Is this normal?
Is there any tests I can do to check the clutch condition whithout spliting it? What about the rear end?
I'm going to mke a trip to TSC this weekend for a muffler, and maybe spaark plug/wires if they have them. What sort of oil filter does this thing use? is it cleanable? havent taken it off just yet. Is there any way to tell if the current oil is detergent or non? I will most likley play it safe and run ND unless there is a surfire way to know if the current oil is detergent.

Thanks for any help guys. I got this to build my R/C track, but maybe my hobby is shifting towards antique tractors? I love this thing.. They really built them to last, not like today, even a john deere made today is made with less care about longevity the cheapest tractors back then...

The power steering boxes from a 340/460 will fit your 300, but you will have clearance problems at the sediment bowl. And as mentioned, they are hard to find. If you do find a p/s unit, be sure to get the regulator valve too, as it's different from yours. P.S. - if your tractor has T/A (torque amplifier), Do Not use 90W, use HyTran or equivilant.

Jay: No offense, but some people aren't cut out to be equipment owner/operators. From reading your posting, I think you're one. If you are scared to death of it, you'll never gain the confidence to be comfortable with it and that can only lead to more problems. Get rid of it before you do get your self hurt. Those tractors are pretty forgiving, but there are always exceptions. LE

I will give some of them short answers:

Does anyone make 2 way cylinders for the lift arms so I can have downpressure?

Yes, hydraulic supply stores will have them. Be sure to realize that the structure may need reinforcement to pull up on the tractor, look it over with care.

I have thought of actually putting my own port in the front since there is ample room on the endcap, but I'm thinking the seals in the front are not designed for that much hydraulic pressure.

Do not do it the piston will not hold down pressure.

If it does not hold, I will either helicoil it Yes. JB weld no!!!.

How many grease zerks are on this thing? just need a number so I know if I got them all, I have seen over 20 so far... Use a manual to assure proper lube procedure.

I was under the impression that the rear end is filled with gear oil, however, when I removed the homemade toolbox (bolts to 2 of the PTO cover bolt holes, mine has no PTO), there was grease on the end of the bolts, not oil??
The rear can be with 90, or Hytran. The hyd resivoir needs Hytran only.

My brother is welding the exhaust manifold, hopefully it holds, he's welded cast iron manifolds for me before with no issues. Is this a common issue where the manifold cracks?

It usually does ifwelded while on the head (or a different head to assure flatness.

I need a new muffler. I dont want to order one. What kind of auto muffler would u recommend? I'm thinking a little one from a metro, or something along that lines. any ideas? I dont wanna order one, cause they arent cheap, and there is a 3 week lead time at my dealer?!?!?! Farm stores carry them, car mufflers are usually not well suited to the lack of support, and do not look to cool (opinion)

What sort of fluids are recommended, I know to use 30w ND oil

(do not do this unless it has had it all along). Use 15-40.
What sort of hydraulic fluid do I use? Hytran or equal spec.

Are the power steering units from the 340-350's swappable? I'm assuming I would need some hoses and fittings to run it with the hydraulic pump.

Maybe. Hard to find.

Get the book.

Unless you are on Very hilly land (and a danger seeking person) Just get use to driving it with a reasonable attitude. A ROP cage can be fabed, but is not needed if you are operating it within its limits.

Is this ridiculous? What about mounnting a rollcage? It would have to be one hell of a rollcage, but thats no issue, I got the equipment and materials. Where would one mount such a contraption?

Axles, and torque tube flats on both sides. I hope I helped, the manuals IT, and Original Owners and Original Service are the main expense needed for success. Good luck, they are nice machines. JimN
