Lately to start my 1066 I have to shot some ether in it. Does not matter if it been running or cold. I have change out filters etc. Tractor runs ok after it starts. Sometimes when it starts it knokcs like it is getting no fuel in there but sounds normal after a second. I am using Power Service conditioner im the diesel. Is there another filter or screen somewhere that I am missing, fuel flows great out of the fuel tank to the primary filter filter.
Any ideas why it will not start without ether.
Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions.
I feel the battery is turning it over fast enough I will try the charger with it next time I have it home
There is no Smoke at all coming out till it cranks.
When it first started to act up if it was cold it would start without ether, but if you killed tractor and then cranked it again like in 5 minutes or less it would not crank without ether. But it was not like that all the time.
it may be coincidence but it seems to start after I started to use power service. I treat the who farm tank at one time so can not just use tank to see if that makes a difference. The tractor does seem to last longer now on fuel as it did before, but that really hard to tell when you baling hay etc
Thanks again for all replies

Well i hate to say this but if it now has a bunch of blow by then the pump and injectors are not your only problem as if ya gave her to much either then you could have vary easlie caused damage to the top rings and this will make her real hard starting.

Like the others have said about the starting end of it i will go with pump and injectors , way tomany times guys will do the pump and not the injectors only to find that the money that theyspent on the pump still is not getting the job done. So with the age of these tractors it is money well spent on doing both.

JM, You didn't say, but is the battery really spinning the tractor over pretty snappily. Not somewhat slow. Have you tried putting a big batt charger on it to see it it would help. You might not be turring it over fast enough...Just a thought.
My 966 when thje batt get low or old and wont holf a charge as well as when it was newer will act the same way. Good Luck.
Later,
John A.

Sounds like the pump's head and rotor assembly has finally gotten scored enough to warrant the hard starting all the time. I'm guessing that you don't have any smoke when cranking until right before it does fire and go.
