H axle seal replacement

I hope this isn't a stupid question, since the messages I could find on this topic all to seem indicate that this is so obvious that it doesn't need details, but...

I've got the axles (and other parts) off of our H and I want to replace the outter oil seals on the axles. I took the cap off without much trouble, but the seal looks like it's pressed in but can't be pressed out? The hole that seal is pressed in doesn't go all the way through the cap, so it seems like you'd have to pull the seal out or something, which for a press fit just seems wrong. Am I missing something obvious? How do I get the old seal out of the cap so I can press in the new ones?

Thanks

The seal has to come back out the same side that it went in. To get the seals out of the caps on my H, I set them on my vise opened wide enough the seal will clear as it comes out. You could also use a couple of pieces of wood too. Then, a punch or small chisel is used to tap them out. Patience and care will keep you from damaging the cap.
