My H is leaking coolant from the waterpump out the fan shaft.

Question 1- In my manual it says something about if the waterpump is leaking adjust the packing screw or add new packing. What exactly is this and could it be my problem? Can I do this without removing the water pump?

Question 2- If I have to remove the pump it appears that I have to remove the radiator to get it off. What is the best way to remove the radiator since the steering shaft goes through it?

I appreciate your guys help b/c I"ve never had it apart before. Thanks
Greg

When mine starts to drip, I give it another shot of grease and I'm good to go for another few days.

Have also tightened the packing nut on an M we had - also stopped the leak.

Try greasing it first. There are two grease zerks, one on the carburetor side of the pump body and the other is on the shaft behind the fan.

The packing nut is the star washer on the front of the fan but you may not have much luck tightening it.

You do have to remove the radiator to remove the pump if the fan shroud is in place. Take the big nut off the front of the steering shaft where it would come through the gearbox then split the steering shaft at the u-joint and it will screw right out the front.
