I used my neighbors 350 for a few minutes this weekend and found out it won't stay in 4th gear. It sayed in 5th gear and I didn't try any of the rest. It also locks in 2 gears very easily. It didn't feel like it went into gear all the way. Could the problem be the end of the shifter is worn enough to not put it all the way into gear or is there something wrong with 4th gear.

Also what do you think such a tractor might be worth to buy. Its gas with narrow front end. Torque is gone, regular drawbar. Tires are near new and motor starts and runs well. Except for above problems remainder of tractor is in pretty good condition. I've got other Farmalls so I know about the cost of torque amplifiers.

Charlie You could have 1 of 3 or all 3 things. #1 the end of the shifter is warn bad and it can be welded up and ground down to work just fine. On a 350 you can pull the tower off with the shifter and look at it and fix. That is why it gets into 2 gears. If that is bad you may not be getting it into 4th all the way and it will not stay. The 3th thing the ball detent spring for 4th maybe broken so ti will not hold it in 4th. You can tell with a bar or screw driver, move the forks back and forth to feal the detents. If 4th is weak you will have to pull the lia off rear end and replace the springs, replace all when in there. Should not be big money.
