Ok guys this may cause a bit of a stir but have to get some opinions. Had a friend told me that the other day he was looking at a guy"s collection of tractors and he says that he has the first M produced. The friend who i beileve about the details of this tractor, but the owner I wander about. My friend says there is no serial tag in the usual spot, but instead it is stamped on the tractor frame like a F20. It says FBK 501. Where the usual tag would go there is no rivet holes etc, could someone have filled them and buffed it? He also says the pedestal is a little diffrent. He tried to explain it to me but I can"t visualize it. Now my question to you guys is, wouldn"t the company keep the first one or is it in some museum somewhere?? If it really went out to a farmer to use what are the chances of it still living and not being scraped? Any info on the subject would be appreciated. If that is the first one, I have to go see it.

The 39 M does have the serial number stamped in the rail. I have head some say that some of the early M's did not have a serial tag. I have 529 and mine does not have a tag and from what I can tell I do not see any place were it would have been. The front boster along with meany other parts are different. One day I might make a web sight detailing the differences I have found. A good tail tail sign too is casting codes. All my casting are 7-10-I so if it is indead 501 the casting codes should date before 7-10-I or 39

A '39 M would have the serial number stamped on the frame, and FBK 501 would be the first one made. Don't know about the rest of it.
