hi i removed the the cover plate to the range transmission this weekend to repair the snapped linkage shaft. it can off after much fiddling. the park brake lock assembly(spring loaded) was missing 2 of the three 1/2" bolts that holds to the underside of the plate. The shaft that the pawl pivots on had worked itself out and looked like it was going to fallout shortly. I felt around in the bottom of the housing and could not find the bolts( i could not reach in all the way to the rear) would there be a problem with leaving the bolts in there ? or should I try to get them out?

Well there in there somewhere and it is wise to find them . Now as far as the bolts to put back in i use grade 8's , clean the holes out with either or acetone and clean the bolts as well then use loctite the blue stuff as ya may have to remove them someday and make sure that they are tight. Now for the pin they were a press fit to start with and the pin is harder then all get out so you may be able to drill it or put a couple of small tack welds on it 180 degrees apart about a half inch long with 7018 at about 120-130 amps on the back side of the pin to the bracket . Now when your going back together you have to BLOCK the park lock up 3/4 of and inch so that it will clear the gear , i use a 1/2 inch nut under the linkage on top of the range transmission cover . That spring is heavy and it WILL TAKE FINGERS OFF.
