Originally had a butterfly looking wire which had 4 loops which fit in a recessed groove on the inside of the water outlet neck. Don't know if it is still available or not. This wire held the thermostat in place. Sometimes.

Yes , there is a spacer and a wire clip that hold in the new style thermostat. They are available from Case dealer, I recently purchased them. The new thermostat is a lot thinner than the old style and requires a spacer.

My case dealer had no idea that there is a spacer and does not list the part anywhere. Happily on the current Super C I have a good old brass thermostat that still works. I will have to deal with it on my other one though.
